Happy (almost) 2019! We’ve made it through another lap around the sun! What an amazing year 2018 has been. While life is naturally full of ups and downs, this year has been an incredible turning point for me both mentally and physically. I got my yoga teaching certification and officially taught my 100th yoga class, quit my soul sucking corporate career I hated and stated focusing on the things that I truly love, and physically got in the best shape of my life.  I have achieved so much, and I know it’s only the beginning.

New Year’s resolutions seem to have a bad reputation lately – mostly because people don’t stick to them after a few months (or days!). I also am not a fan of the word “resolution” mostly because it implies that something in your life need to be resolved or fixed. However, I do like to set “Intentions” or “Goals” so that I can constantly refer back to them throughout the year to keep myself on track. It’s a pretty amazing feeling to be able to cross off a goal that I accomplished and to have tangible proof that I am making progress with where I want to be.

I recently attended a meeting with my A Sweat Life Ambassador family where we discussed making BHAGS, or “Big Hairy Audacious Goals”. In the meeting, we discussed how making goals starts with a projection of the future. We were all asked to close our eyes and imagine our most perfect day 10 years from now. What does your life look like? What is your job? Where do you live? What is your career? Etc.  What I loved about this exercise is it really made me think about what I truly wanted if there were no options for failure. So often we are our own worst enemies and create mental roadblocks for ourselves (I’m too old, I could never do that, I’m not strong enough, etc.) Where would I be if I could be anything I wanted? What does the best possible version of myself look like?

From there, the real work began. We were asked to work backwards and create a path to get to that point. What would I have to do to become the person I envision myself being in 10 years? What steps do I have to take during year 5, year 3, or even tomorrow to start working to become this ideal version of myself? This exercise has really helped me start to look ahead and plan out what steps I need to achieve my goals. My intentions this year are all stepping stones that I need to help me start working towards my goals.

I not only have written these goals down here, but I typed them out on a piece of paper and taped it to my wall in front of my computer (somewhere I look at every single day). I also wrote them down in the notes section of my phone. New year’s intentions are not just idealistic, or unobtainable or far reaching tasks that I will forget about in a few days. They are important stepping stones for me to achieve my dreams.

In the spirit of accountability, here are my 10 New Year’s intentions for 2019:  

  1. Get my Yoga Sculpt certification and start teaching classes
  2. Become a Studio Assistant and/or Assistant Studio Manager at CPY
  3. Be more consistent with blog posts and work with more brands that align with my goals & message
  4. Create a Yoga Blog YouTube Channel
  5. Get featured in a Women’s Health or Yoga Journal
  6. Continue boxing classes
  7. Hold a regular handstand without wall support. Hold king dancers pose. Get defined abs. Get my splits.
  8. Read a real paperback book (or several)
  9. Try a new studio or workout each month (yoga or not)
  10. Stay Vegan
