Happy November friends! Chapter 11 of 12. Can you believe 2018 is almost over?! November is one of my favorite months of the year. It’s a time when people come together and are reminded to be grateful for the many positive things happening in our lives. At a time when the world seems to be filled with so much negative energy, it’s important to take a step back and remind ourselves to find the silver lining and to think of all the incredible things that we have to be grateful for.

It’s been proven that grateful people are happier, live longer, are less stressed, and have better relationships with other people. Gratitude is a powerful tool for shifting your energy and bringing more of what you want into your life. When you are grateful for what you already have, you will attract more good things! In the spirit of Thanksgiving this month, here is a list of my top 5 ways that I incorporate gratitude into my daily life:

1. Find the Positive in Each Situation

Even in the most difficult and painful situations, there is always a silver lining. There have been times in my life where I was rejected from something I really wanted, only to look back several years later and realize that I was being redirected to something better. I’m actually happy that things didn’t work out the way I once wanted them to. Life will often throw obstacles in your path, but at the end of the day it’s your decision if you are going to let it bring you down, or if you want to learn from it and allow it to make you stronger. When you learn to replace “Why is this happening to me” with “What is this trying to teach me?” everything will shift.

2. Meditate

I wrote a blog a few months back about incorporating meditation into my weekly routine (Read My Favorite Guided Meditations).  I have found that meditation truly helps me relax, and also gives me time to consider all that I have to be thankful for. Meditation doesn’t have to be done in the stereotypical way of sitting cross-legged in a candlelit room – it can be just a few moments of silence that you have during your day to close your eyes and reflect on all the people and things you are grateful for.

Meditation not your thing? Try jotting down a few things each morning that you are grateful for in a journal or the notes section on your phone. It will give you the same benefits and allow you to start your morning off on a positive note!

3. Express Gratitude Through Small Actions

It seems such a simple thing, but you’d be surprised at how much such small gestures can affect you and other people. Say hello to a stranger on the street. Hold the door for someone walking in behind you. If someone lets you cut in front of them when you’re turning into the lane, wave and say thank you!  Small gestures like these are simple ways to be polite, but also makes other people feel appreciated, and will make you feel good as well.

4. Tell the people in your life how much you appreciate them

I make it a point to tell people in my life how much I love and appreciate them every day. Even if just a quick text or Instagram comment, I try to show the people in my life that I am grateful for them in small ways every day. Send flowers, write letters, spend time with friends (the most important gift you can give is your time), take a coworker to lunch…there are so many ways that you can express gratitude!  We never know what tomorrow will bring, so don’t wait to tell the people in your life that you love and care about them.

5. Send out positive energy

Your energy is a powerful thing. How many times have you come into contact with a person with a rude demeanor or nasty attitude and it ruined your day? I would say its probably happened to all of us. Similarly, your positive energy effects people in the same way! You would be surprised how much a good attitude and friendly smile can uplift someone else’s day. Challenge yourself to not complain or be negative for 24 hours and see how it affects your life!
